Beginners – Battersea

Gemma’s course seemed like a good opportunity to try something new; I had long adored watching ballroom dancing and had always longed to try it myself but I lacked the confidence. Something about Gemma’s course and her website gave me the inspiration to give it a go and I wasn’t disappointed.  I attended the classes without a partner which I worried might make me feel even more awkward than I did already, but you’re never alone for long, and it was lovely to meet and dance with new people.  It’s a fun way to try something that can increase your confidence, self-esteem and give you new skills to boot – it’s a win-win situation!  You get to use a different part of your brain, have fun and meet some lovely new people – Gemma included.  The classes are a little ray of sunshine in the working week.  I loved the sense of achievement at the end of each, and I’m delighted that took the chance and gave it a go!

About this course

If you’ve never danced before, this course is designed for you, so there’s no need to worry if it’s your first time as everyone will be in the same position!  It’s also ideal if you would like to learn the basics of social dancing, or are getting married later in the year.  The emphasis of the class is on having fun, meeting new people and getting hooked on Ballroom and Latin dance…but don’t be fooled as you’ll also be learning a little bit of technique without even realising it, so that you’ll become a confident dancer very quickly.

During this 8-week Ballroom dancing course for absolute beginners, you will learn simple steps in four Ballroom and four Latin dances.  In each class we’ll do a reminder of the previous week, so that you will be able to remember the steps with ease, and recognise the different types of music each style is danced to.

 You’ll learn to dance:

  • Waltz
  • Foxtrot
  • Tango
  • Quickstep
  • Rumba
  • Cha-Cha-Cha
  • Samba
  • Jive

That’s just the start, because from here you’re already able to go to social dances to practice your steps, progress to the Intermediate course, or even take some private classes to refine your dancing and enter a Medal Test or Pro-Am competition!
